National Administration Officers in Nandi Central Sub-County, Emgwen Constituency, have been praised for their relentless campaign to have 70-plus elderly persons and other vulnerable groups registered for the improved Inua Jamii programme.
Sub-County Social Development Officer Lois Boit said the number of elderly people reporting for registration is overwhelming due to a successful sensitization drive led by the NGAO network within the sub-county villages.
Boit said that every day starting Monday this week, registration centres are full of elderly people who brave chilly mornings in order to get their details captured.
She said that they are always forced to work until late hours so that all the elderly people who have arrived are registered.
“I tell you this will be a very successful campaign due to the government’s proper coordinated messaging that has reached elders in remote villages,” Boit said.
The Social Development Officer revealed that they have registered close to 1,000 elderly people since the exercise kicked off on the 1st of this month.
She noted that her registration team from the Department of Social Protection office are continuing with the exercise and using the shortest time possible to capture the details of eligible elders and other vulnerable persons.
On his part, Nandi Central Deputy County Commissioner Saidi Shaban reiterated that NGAO officers at the grassroots are under firm instructions to ensure all elderly persons above 70 years availed themselves for mass registrations.
The DCC added that poor households taking care of orphans, vulnerable children, and persons with severe disabilities are advised to avail themselves at location registration centres to benefit from the government’s aggressively improved Inua Jamii Programme.
He directed that persons taking care of children and persons with severe disabilities should ensure the eligible groups are supported in reaching the registration centres to have their details captured.
Saidi expressed confidence that the NGAO campaign will ensure the elderly above 70 years in Nandi Central and the entire Nandi County, as well as the eligible vulnerable groups, are registered before the end of the exercise.
The government is committed to increasing the number of Inua Jamii programme beneficiaries from 1.2 million to 2.5 million in the next three years.
The government is targeting to register 500,000 elderly people across the country.
