New schools completed to enhance CBC implementation in Nandi

The government has completed the construction of 415 schools for Grade 9 use in Nandi County, according to County Director of Education Harrison Muriuki.

Speaking during the official opening of three new Grade 9 classes at Nandi Hills Township Primary School, Muriuki said the government completed the construction in Phase 1 and Phase 2 and promised that more classrooms will be built in Phase 3 and Phase 4.

The County Education Chief revealed that Nandi County had a total of 576 Secondary Schools and that the remaining 161 schools without new Grade 9 will continue using the available classes until new ones are constructed.

Muriuki said that the Constituency Development Fund is playing a pivotal role in the construction of the new classes across six constituencies in Nandi County.

He thanked Eastern Produce Kenya, an International Tea Processing Company operating in Nandi Hills, for constructing ten new Grade 9 classes and eight new laboratories.

The Education Director appealed to various non-state actors operating in Nandi to help in improving education standards across the County by constructing new facilities and providing necessary learning equipment.

Muriuki praised the Competence-Based Curriculum education system as the best and most suitable to tackle unemployment and various challenges facing Kenyan students as they accomplish their education.

“CBC is the best education system for this country because after this year all of you will transit to grade 10 and will be placed in various specialised schools,” Muriuki told Grade 9 learners at Nandi Hills Township Primary School in Nandi Hills.

He said there was no waste in going to school as the learners had the opportunity to explore their talents and skills if academic work proved challenging.

“There is no wastage in the CBC system; if you are weak in academics, bring out your skills and talents. I know most of you are good in sports, others in music, and others in drama,” Muriuki emphasised.

Meanwhile, Muriuki also opened new Grade 9 classrooms in AIC Kosirai Primary School in Chesumei Constituency and asked parents to support their children in embracing the CBC education system.

A section of parents present during the opening of the classrooms hailed the government for their initiative to ensure the CBC education system works through the employment of teachers and construction of new classrooms.
