Traders in Carlifornia-Soweto areas are set to benefit from the ongoing Municipal Upgrade Project, after Lodwar Municipality Management announced a plan to construct 30 new modern stalls for the FY’2023/2024.
The Lodwar Municipal Manager, Eng Benjamin Tukei revealed this during the site handover to a contractor to commence the construction works.
The Manager was accompanied by the Lodwar Municipality Board members led by its Chairperson Christine Tatoi and County Chief Officer for Public Works, Cathra Abdi.
Eng Tukei said the stalls will provide a space for traders to do business and raise revenue for the Municipality.
The stalls, he said, will also raise the sanitation standards for the benefit of both the traders and customers.
Speaking to the residents, the Board Chair, Tatoi urged the contractor to avail job opportunities to the local youth and women during the construction period.
On her part, Chief Officer Abdi expressed optimism that the completed project will further raise the profile of Lodwar Municipality as a convenient centre for small scale trade and commercial ventures.
She called on the locals to be vigilant and assist the county in ensuring that the work is delivered in line with the approved standards.
