New Community Center lauded as Pivotal Hub for Empowerment in Siaya

Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO), an NGO with a presence in 35 Counties across Kenya, celebrated the unveiling of its latest community center in Siaya Town. The event, which took place in Siaya Town was attended by Siaya Governor James Orengo and marked a significant milestone in SHOFCO’s mission to empower local communities.

SHOFCO CEO Kennedy Odede said the new center is expected to have a great impact on the community. “A total of 168,000 members of the SHOFCO Urban Networks (SUN) will benefit directly or indirectly from this center,” Odede stated.

“We have equipped it with a modern library, sewing machines, and various other resources to serve as a comprehensive empowerment hub,” he said.

The NGO, which focuses on providing free medical care, community empowerment programs, quality education, and clean water, has already made significant strides within Siaya County.

Odede pointed out, “We have successfully taken 500 young adults through our vocational training centers here in Siaya. This center will further enhance our efforts.”

Orengo praised SHOFCO’s initiatives, emphasizing the transformative potential of the new center.

“This facility is a testament to the power of partnership and community-driven development. It is set to bring remarkable changes to our county,” he remarked.

In addition to the inauguration, SHOFCO is in discussions with the Siaya County Government to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for collaboration in sectors such as agriculture, health, and youth empowerment where the county will bolster the Organization’s efforts through partnerships.

“We have successfully partnered with counties like Kilifi and Mombasa, and we look forward to similar fruitful cooperation here in Siaya,” Odede said.

The event also coincided with SHOFCO’s local branch elections, during which new officials were elected.
