New Coast Development Authority Board inaugurated

The  government has inaugurated the Coast Development Authority (CDA) Board under the Chairmanship of former Labour Cabinet Secretary, Kazungu  Kambi.

The brief ceremony was presided over by the East  African Community and Regional Development Cabinet Secretary (CS), Adan Mohamed at the CDA headquarters in Mombasa.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mohamed said the new CDA board members will undergo orientation before they embark on the state corporation’s programs and projects.

“The CDA plays a critical economic role in the coast region,” he emphasized.

Aden  said the CDA also plays a social economic role in the coast region and covers six counties of Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Taita Taveta, Lamu and Tana River.

The CS added the state corporation covers arid and semi arid parts of Garissa County to ensure they support the communities in different socio-economic programs.

Mohamed defended what the CDA was doing which was also being done by other state corporations namely Ewaso Nyiro North Development Authority.

He singled out what the Lake Basin Authority was doing in other parts of the country which has challenges on issues of governance.

“The issue of governance is a challenge in the institutions and parastatals under my ministry,” he pointed out.

The CS told journalists apart from the challenges of governance there are a number of government projects and programs which have not been completed on time yet they want to focus on new projects.
