Needy students awarded bursary in Gem

Eight thousand bright and needy students from Gem constituency will benefit from a multi-million shilling bursary scheme from the area National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
Gem MP Elisha Ochieng Odhiambo said that among the beneficiaries were the best five students per ward and top five girls in each of the wards.

Speaking at Horace Ongili secondary school in his constituency when he presided over the disbursement of Sh17 million to needy students Thursday, Odhiambo said that the bursary will benefit secondary schools, colleges and universities’ students.

The MP called on the parents and guardians who are unable to fund the cost of education of their children not to deny such children opportunities to acquire knowledge as the bursary, funded by the national government was available.

“Parents should not lock the children at home because of lack of fees. Come to my office,” he said.

He expressed his commitment to ensuring that Gem constituency reclaimed its position as the citadel of education in the region.

Odhiambo urged parents and education stakeholders to support government’s efforts to achieve universal access to education by ensuring that all the children go to school.
