A number of students from poor backgrounds in Homa Bay Sub-County are grateful after an organisation christened Isaiah Ogwe Foundation offered to pay part of their school fees.
The organization distributed cheques worth Sh 310,000 to a total of 31 students from various secondary schools to cater for their fees.
The Foundation Manager Michael Okuthe and Coordinator Osoro Odongo who distributed the cheques to the parents of the students in Homa Bay Town said their objective is to enable children from needy families acquire education by paying their fees.
“Our assessment revealed that some of these students cannot go to school because their parents are unable to afford their school fees. That is why we saw it imperative to help the students go to school,” Okuthe said.
He called on residents who are financially stable to join hands and support the education of needy children in the county. “Education is key to the development of a child hence the need for concerted efforts to support vulnerable children,” Okuthe added.
Odongo, the coordinator explained that they realised the true situation of vulnerability when they visited the homes of the students adding that had they not issued the cheques to cater for their fees, then most of them would not go to school.
“It is our assurance of issuing the cheques which gave some of them confidence of going back to school after half term break,” he said.
The parents were thankful, saying that the funds came at a time when they most needed help.
“My daughter who is in form two at Rae Girls went back to school without school fees. I am thankful to the foundation for coming to my rescue at the time where I needed help the most,” said Carline Aoko, a parent.
The parents are expected to deposit the cheques to bank accounts of their children’s schools to be issued with bank slips.
