National examinations to be conducted with integrity

Security in Moyale Sub-County, Marsabit County has been beefed up ahead of the fourth coming national examinations.

Moyale Sub-County Assistant County Commissioner One (ACC I) Martin Muhia who chaired examinations briefing meeting at St. Mary’s Primary School in Moyale town Tuesday, said all necessary measures as per the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) guidelines have been put in place to safeguard the integrity of the national exams.

Muhia reminded examination officials who are basically teachers that they have a duty bestowed on them by the KNEC and the government to carry out the exercise with utmost integrity.

At the same time, he announced that examination centers will be out of bounds for non-examination officials, but was quick to say that the gates of the exam centers should remain open throughout the exam time.

Moyale sub-county director of education Roba Halkano said they were ready for examinations because all the briefings have been done and every player was aware of the role he/ she was supposed to take during the crucial exercise, which will determine the future of the candidates.

However, he reminded examination officials to be vigilant and even check on everything, including instances where some materials could be hidden for exam cheating

“Some students could be crafty, we do not allow candidates to use clipboards and if they will be wearing face masks, they must be checked because some students may take advantage use the protective gear to cheat in the examination,” Roba said.

Area Police Commander Walter Chebron who was also in attendance said every examination center should be manned by two armed police officers, adding that if need be more security officers will be deployed.

The function was also attended by officials from the KNEC headquarters who have been deployed to monitor any possible situation which could jeopardize the smooth running of exams within the region.
