National council of NGOs launch counties outreach programme

The National  Council of  Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs ) today held a meeting with member organisations during which it unveiled the  Counties Outreach Programme  to maintain  peace  and Sustainable  Development in Kenya.

Speaking during the event at Nyayo House, Nairobi,  the Council of NGOs  chairman Stephen Cheboi said the Council members have been grouped into teams to visit their assigned counties for the outreach programme.

Cheboi said  one of  the strategies the council will  employ is  engaging   with different Counties to create awareness for peace and sustainable development in the country.

“The programme is aimed at understanding the issues affecting each of the counties, seeking partnership with county governments, local NGOs  and other Civil Society Organizations (CSO) working at County levels to build partnerships and identify the challenges and opportunities at county level,”  said Cheboi.

He stated that  the teams will be guided by the name of the county, its economic block and its top leadership together with their contacts.

The Chairman further said that the teams will be briefed on the history of each top county leader in addition to the socio-economic issues affecting the county, each sub-county and all the wards therein.

The teams, according to Cheboi, are expected to find out the opportunities and challenges in the counties and consequently come up with the possible solutions to the challenges affecting it.

“In order to fulfill the roles set forth by the council, the teams will be able to learn from the previous County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP), strategic plans, Vision 2030, and the regional economic block plans,” said Cheboi.

He stressed that the teams, before preparing a detailed report and action plan, will scout potential partners to collaborate in addressing the challenges identified in the counties while utilizing other necessary and relevant information on the subject.

Meanwhile, he urged Kenyans to abide  by the ruling of the Supreme Court verdict today in order to maintain peace and harmony among Citizens.

“Whoever wins or loses should be content. Let us remain one whether you are on the winning side or the losing side.,” stated Cheboi.
