Narok residents to receive free face masks

Narok County is producing over 2000 face masks a day to be given free of charge to all residents living in the county in a bid to combat Covid-19.
Speaking Thursday when he visited Narok Technical Training Institute, where the face masks are being made, the governor Samuel Tunai said the process was funded by the county government so as to create jobs for the locals as well as preventing the possibility of Coronavirus in the county.
He praised the technical institute students who are doing the job saying the county will buy more sewing machines to employ more people to do the job.
“We have been importing these facemasks from Turkey and China, now we are producing our own in this county. This is very commendable,” said Tunai.
At the same time, Tunai warned residents against movements to neighbouring Tanzania country and counties like Kajiado and Nakuru which have confirmed cases of Covid-19.
“We have to listen to what we are being told because if we ignore we can easily bring the disease to our county. Kajiado County has tested three positive cases of the disease, while Nakuru has two cases. Our neighbouring Tanzania has confirmed almost 500 cases,” he said.
The governor who was accompanied by Narok County Commissioner Samuel Kimiti asked the residents to put the free facemasks to good use to contain the spread of the virus.
Kimiti warned that those who fail to follow the laid down regulations risk being arrested and prosecuted in court of law adding that the county had no confirmed case of covid-19.
He sounded a warning to residents living in flood-prone areas to shift to safer grounds to avert a risk of being swept by the waters.
“Rains come as a blessing but can also be dangerous. So far the floods have killed almost ten persons in this county and property destroyed. We need to be vigilant to avert any possible disaster that could be caused by the waters,” said Kimiti.
