Nanyuki High school posts stellar results in 2023 KCSE results

Nanyuki boys’ High in Laikipia County posted stellar performance in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results released today by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu.

Nanyuki High school Chief Principal Solomon Kipkoech speaking to the media at the school on Monday said that a total of 15 candidates had scored straight A and 286 garnered C+ (plus) above, a direct entry to university.

“As a school, we have seen a positive trajectory in improvement across all areas from sports, drama and also in academics, we are doing well,” Kipkoech said.

Kipkoech said that it was an improvement compared to 2022 KCSE results where only four candidates had scooped A grade and at the same time the mean score moved from 8.890 the previous year to 8.897 this year.

“We are happy because last year, we had only four straight A but this year, we were able to improve from four to fifteen. We really thank God for that. The mean score for the school has also gone up,” said the principal.

Nanyuki High School had 331 candidates who sat for the KCSE this year compared with 237 in 2022.

The school had continued to shine over the years becoming one of the most preferred National schools among students wishing to join Form One.

“Nanyuki was one of the most sought schools in the country this year, we were number two most preferred after Kabianga High. We had about 158,000 KCPE candidates choosing our school. We were not able to accommodate all with our limited space of 500 students,” he revealed.

The principal attributed the success to sheer hard work, student commitment, and good partnership with the parents.

“We attribute this success to a very motivated teaching staff, the support staff, and a disciplined class of 2023. The students were also able to tackle more than 10 trial exam papers before the KCSE exam,” said Kipkoech.

He further pointed out that teachers were also able to complete the syllabus on time.

Among the top candidates who scored A grade were Frank Mutuota, Daniel Mamboleo, Adanoor Alinoor Isaak, Mbau Nigel Muhunyo, Odhiambo Oloo James, Ochieng Rahman Ochieng, Alex Nzeeka King’ee, Kennedy Gicheha, Karira Lawrence Njoroge, Mwangi Evans Muiruri, Wandera Peter, Mohamed Shimbir, Justin Mwenda, Omondi Duncan Owino, and Matik Awech Majok.

Meanwhile, with Kipkoech who having been in the school for about a year after his predecessor Oliver Minishi retired in December 2022, all eyes were set on him by key education stakeholders to see how he would maintain the school’s excellent performance.

Previously, he served in Emining High School in Nakuru and later joined Kangaru Boys before being transferred to Nanyuki High School in January 2023 by the Ministry of Education; In 2016, he was awarded the principal award of the year.
