Turkana County is set to have a County Attorney Office after Governor Josphat Nanok on Wednesday assented into law the Turkana County Office of the County Attorney Bill, 2018.
The bill passed by the County Assembly provides for the establishment of the County Attorney Office that will be made up of the County Attorney, a County Solicitor and a number of County Legal Counsels.
The County Attorney will be appointed by the Governor and will be the principal legal adviser to the County Government among other functions.
According to the law the County Solicitor will be appointed by the Governor from a list of two competitively selected by the County Public Service Board while the Board recruiting County Legal Counsels.
The new law comes after the public and county governments raised concerns over the quality of legislation and cost of litigation paid by the county governments.
