The Nandi Senator, Samson Cherargei was on Tuesday morning arrested by detectives at his home in Kapkeben Village in Mosoriot and taken to the Central police station in Eldoret for questioning over the remarks he made over the weekend.
This comes after Nandi Hills Criminal Investigation Officer, Rahamad Wasilwa stated that the Senator’s remarks made over the weekend at a funeral were threatening peace and he should therefore appear before detectives.
According to an audio recorded during the funeral of a renowned teacher, Dominic Kipchoge at Lelwak in O’lessos Ward in Nandi East Sub County, Cherargei lashed at those people deemed to be derailing the political ambitions of the Deputy President by fighting him.
“Those people who continue to fight the deputy president just continue but remember we are profiling, marking you and we shall take care of you,” said Cherargei.
Cherargei went ahead to warn the purported persons that they should not think that the DP does not have supporters as they were heavily present.
A section of Rift leaders and residents led by Uasin Gishu Women Rep, Gladys Boss Shollei distanced themselves from the Senator’s remarks.
“The statement made by Senator Cherargei is quite unfortunate. I know for a fact this is his personal position, and as a supporter of DP William Rutto, I distance myself from his statement. We cannot force or threaten in order to get support,” said Shollei.
Shollei added that she would reach out to work together with the opponents for a great Kenya, and that she shall seek support for her candidate in a peaceful and conciliatory manner.
A resident, Kwombo Kigerer, said he regretted the remarks attributed to the Senator and termed them as reckless, misguided and unwarranted and that they would cause untold damage to the person of the DP, the people of Nandi and his supporters.
