Nandi County set to construct modern markets to boost trade and economic growth

The Nandi County Government in partnership with the National Government is set to construct modern markets in selected towns across the region to boost local businesses and stimulate economic growth.

These markets aim to provide essential infrastructure and opportunities for traders, offering a vital platform for local businesses to thrive.

The project, which will improve access to customers and create a safer, more efficient environment for traders, was the focus of a consultative meeting held at the Governor’s office on Thursday.

The meeting brought together officials from the State Department of Housing, Members of Parliament Bernard Kitur (Nandi Hills), Marianne Kittany (Aldai), Josses Lelmengit (Emgwen), and Nandi County officials, and other key stakeholders.

Speaking during the meeting, Nandi Governor Stephen Sang emphasized that the markets will not only benefit traders directly by providing a conducive environment for their businesses but will also attract investment to the region.

By spurring economic activity in surrounding areas, the project is expected to promote sustainable development and create new opportunities for growth.

“These modern markets will be a game-changer for local traders. They will provide the infrastructure necessary for businesses to flourish and contribute to the broader economic development of the region,” he said

The second term Governor noted that the markets are part of a broader plan to enhance economic resilience in the county, providing local traders with improved access to customers while also encouraging entrepreneurs to set up new businesses in the region.

With these new developments, local traders can expect better infrastructure, increased foot traffic and an overall boost to business efficiency.

Already a multi-million Fresh Produce Market in Kapsabet Town is almost complete.         The ambitious flag ship project is aimed at providing a better working environment for the traders currently operating in the CBD market, as well as creating more space for new businesses to thrive.
