Nakuru town East MP David Gikaria was released on a sh. 50,000 cash bail Wednesday.
Nakuru County Police Commander Peter Mwanzo said the decision to release him on a police bond was arrived at following consultation between the police and the judiciary.
He explained that the MP could not be arraigned in court today after the IEBC officials from Naka polling station where the offence was committed, left for Nairobi to deliver the election results at the Bomas of Kenya.
The police boss however assured that the MP would be arraigned in court on the 17th of August this year to answer to charges of assault and other election violence offences.
MP was arrested yesterday after he allegedly assaulted an MCA aspirant at Naka polling center.
According to the Commander, Gikaria who is defending his seat on an UDA party ticket attacked and injured the aspirant at the polling center after accusing him of interfering with the election exercise in the area he considered as his stronghold.
Mwanzo who declined to disclose the name of the MCA aspirant, said he sustained serious injuries and is admitted at a Nakuru hospital.
