The Nakuru County Government has continued to accelerate access to clean and safe water for the residents of Belbur in the Njoro sub-county after equipping the Belbur Kapchi Water Project to the tune of Sh4.8 million.
According to the Sub-County Water Engineer, Angela Watetu, investing in appropriate and adequate water infrastructure development will go a long way in addressing water shortage issues and help reduce the risk of infection with a number of waterborne diseases that at times lead to death.
Watetu observed that water scarcity has been a headache for the locals in the past years, posing a great challenge due to the minimal finances that have to cater to their basic needs, among them water.
She said that this will now be a thing of the past as they will be able to run their day-to-day activities without the worry of having to spare more time in search of this precious commodity.
The residents had raised concerns about being financially crippled as they couldn’t explore their full potential when engaging in any economic activity; children have less time for school activities and lack social time as they spend a lot of time in search of water.
Watetu affirmed that the county government, together with other stakeholders, has prioritised such efforts in a bid to help solve this challenge.
This project will involve borehole equipping, electrification, the construction of a control panel house, the installation of a 10,000-litre UPVC tank, a communal water point, and 2km of piping work.
This is in line with Kenya’s Vision 2030 of having all Kenyans get access to safe water and improved sanitation services by 2030.
Currently, 28 million Kenyans are said to be grappling with the issue of access to safe water.
