Naivasha Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) has disbursed bursaries worth Sh31.6 million to offset school fees for needy students in the area.
Speaking during the handing over of the cheques, area Member of Parliament Jayne Kihara said the donation will benefit 4000 secondary school students and 1500 others from tertiary institutions.
Kihara said day school students will each receive Sh3000, their counterparts in boarding facilities Sh5000, while those in University and colleges will personally get Sh8000.
The MP called on the benefitting students to uphold high level of discipline in school and work hard so as to score good grades for their future careers.
At the same time, Kihara raised concern over poor turnout of students joining form one, while calling on the local national government administrators to intervene and help in tracing the missing students.
According to the area NG-CDF Fund Manager Patrick Ngugi, the local selection committee was committed in ensuring transparency in the allocation of the bursaries to ensure that the donation was only accorded to the neediest cases.
School representatives who attended the ceremony at Milimani High School in Lakeview Ward, urged the government to increase resources so as to incorporate more beneficiaries into program.
