Naduat residents all smiles after uplifting of a rural school to a modern institution

Residents of Naduat, Turkana West are all smiles after the government through the Kenya Development Response to Displacement Impacts Project (KDRDIP) upgraded a rural school to a modern school.

Prior to the intervention, Naduat primary school did not have adequate latrines and did not have an administration block, teachers did not have an office and resorted to sharing classroom space with pupils. However, the teachers’ morale has been boosted with construction of staff quarters.

When he visited the school last week, during a two days tour of Turkana West Sub County to assess KDRDIP projects, Principal Secretary in charge of State Department for ASALS & Regional Development Idris Dokota commended the school for notable improvements in enrolment and academic performance.

The school’s mean score shot up from 189 to 293 while the enrolment has increased from 550 pupils to 900 pupils, with the head teacher Samuel Losike saying the institution now has adequate latrines unlike in the past.

Losike said, “The school has also benefited from two classrooms, an administration block, kitchen, and teachers’ quarters.”

According to a parent, Lilian Loskirien KDRDIP intervention has saved parents from having to look for politicians to solve each of their problems as a community.

She said community groups also benefit from Sh500, 000 grants to start their business and uplift their livelihoods.
