Lumakanda MCA Benard Bokanda has expressed confidence that the opening of Mwamba Market in Kakamega County is a big step towards narrowing the unemployment gap among the youth and women in his area.
According to Bokanda, unemployment among the youths has reached an alarming level which calls for quick intervention by area leaders.
The MCA promised that he was ready to mentor young people into businesses as one way of helping them earn a living.
According to Bokanda, the market was purposely opened to provide employment to hundreds of people as he had stated in his agenda “lobby for job creation for youths and women.”
Bokanda said he will work with the county Department of Trade to ensure they provide the needed environment for the growth of the newly opened Mwamba Market.
He asked the department of revenue to give traders three months tax waiver to help them use all proceed in increasing stock.
“I will provide food every Wednesday for the next one month to everybody at the market as a way of setting a good start for you,” Bokanda told hundreds of people present during the opening of Mwamba Market in Lugari Sub-County.
Traders who talked during the opening ceremony however requested for construction of a security wall. They also asked well-wishers to provide them with umbrellas to use during bad weather.
The opening of the market was attended by Lumakanda Ward Administrator Mary Mukatia, who proposed to assist in the growth of the market and ensure County Government services offered to the people are the best.
