The Department of Children’s Services has recruited four volunteer children officers in Mwala Sub County to bolster efforts towards safeguarding children’s rights.
Sub County Children’s Officer Sarah Solomon said the officers will work under the guidance of her office to identify and refer cases of abuse among children in the sub county.
“The officers will also work closely with chiefs and assistant chiefs to protect children from abuse,” Solomon said.
Speaking on Wednesday during the sub county Children’s Advisory Committee meeting at the Deputy County Commissioner’s boardroom, Solomon disclosed that the department will recruit more volunteer officers across the sub county.
“Mwala is vast and our intention is to recruit more volunteers to help us in managing children matters,” added the children’s officer.
She further said the officers will be inducted on child matters before deployment to ensure that they have the requisite skills and knowledge.
“We will ensure they are well versed on the new Children’s Act among other pertinent issues,” added Solomon.
The children’s officer also underscored the need to sensitise stakeholders on the new Act, which she noted had placed the best interest of the child at the core.
