Government donates relief food to needy Muslims in Machakos

The government has distributed relief food to more than 10,000 needy Muslims in Machakos to cushion them against hunger during this holy month of Ramadhani.

Arid and Semi-Arid areas (ASALS) Cabinet Secretary Peninnah Malonza said while flagging off the relief food at the County Commissioner’s office that Machakos is among the counties with a high population of Muslims and the relied food will be equally distributed to 78 mosques that are spread across the county.

The CS added that a total of 160 bags of rice, 400 bags of beans, 10 cartons of sardine fish, pasta and cooking oil among other essentials, were distributed and will provide crucial sustenance for needy families observing the holy month.

Ms. Malonza emphasised the government’s dedication to supporting Muslims across the nation, and said so far the government has provided relief food to 22 counties with significant Muslim populations.

The CS also highlighted the importance of economic empowerment for the Muslim community, encouraging entrepreneurship, and highlighted opportunities within the burgeoning Konza City techno polis.

She also underscored the government’s substantial investment of Sh29.16 million for water projects in Machakos County aimed at bolstering infrastructure and ensuring the seamless distribution of water resources.

State Department for Performance and Delivery Management Principal Secretary Veronica Nduva encouraged parents to take their children to Machakos University and Konza techno polis institutions to be armed with ICT skills that will better their lives.

Nduva reiterated on entrepreneurship and taking advantage of public Wi-Fi to start online businesses for the youth and grownups to improve on their various skills online.

The event was also flanked by Machakos County Commissioner Josephine Ouko, Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka, and Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi among other county and national government officials.
