Villagers at Mangolomo village on the outskirt of Mwingi town on Wednesday woke to a rude shock when they found a body of a middle-aged man dumped in a nearby river.
The body was discovered by Margaret Mutinda in the morning as she was going to buy breakfast at a neigbouring kiosk.
She raised an alarm attracting the attention of other villagers who rushed to the scene. She reported the matter to Mwingi police station.
Confirming the incident, Mwingi Central OCPD Peter Mutuma told KNA that the body of the deceased who was identified as Francis Mutisya Kitondu had multiple injuries.
“The body had injuries on the head suspected to have been caused by a blunt object. It had also cut marks on the right foot and two of his right hand fingers had been chopped off but we traced the fingers about 10 meters from the body,” the OCPD said.
Mutuma, who was accompanied to the scene by team of detectives from criminal investigation department said on searching the neighbourhood, they traced some blood stains outside a house belonging to one Mulwa Kivundui.
“We arrested the house owner pending interrogation by the detectives,” said the OCPD who added that the body was taken to Mwingi Level 4 hospital mortuary.
