Police in Kisumu County are trailing a suspect who allegedly murdered and buried a man at his homestead in Kobura, Nyando Sub County.
The suspect, a cousin to the former Kisumu Governor, Jack Ranguma, is accused of killing Stephen Onyango.
The Nyando Sub County Police Commander (SCPC), Lawrence Matete said the body of Onyango was found buried at the home of the suspect next to Ranguma’s ancestral home.
The body was discovered by locals after a two-week search in the mortuaries in Kisumu and Kakamega counties.
“The body was in a grave covered by grass,” the police chief said.
Matete, who declined to give the name of the suspect, said the body was retrieved and taken to Ahero Sub County Hospital mortuary.
“We are following crucial leads to ensure the well-known suspect is arrested,” he told KNA on phone.
The suspect, Matete said, is also facing defilement allegations, adding that the suspect had been jailed for four years for theft offense but was released after a year.
“It is questionable how the man managed to get out of prison before serving his full sentence,” Matete said.
