Murang’a Woman Representative Betty Maina has called upon Murang’a residents to be tolerant of leaders from the region who have taken different political positions, saying it was their right to do so.
The Member of Parliament (MP), who was speaking at Mugeka in Gaturi ward, Kiharu constituency, castigated leaders from the region who are hostile towards each other for being in different political camps saying they instead should prioritize delivering their mandates.
She called for tolerance among leaders and the public when taking sides saying those in the government and those in the opposition can serve the community in different capacities and emphasised that it was okay for different leaders from the same region to be on opposing sides saying it is common in all other regions across the country.
“As a region we cannot put all our eggs in one basket, it is good to have some of our people elsewhere,” she said.
She maintained that all leaders have a right to make political decisions based on their personal political plans and knowledge and called upon leaders to deliver services to the people saying the people will judge leaders based on their actions and not based on what they said or who they supported.
“A political decision should be personal and what really concerns the public is development and service delivery, that is what the people will not forget.” Maina said.
Maina averred her commitment towards supporting president William Ruto’s government for the remainder of the term noting that this will ensure the region receives its fair share of national development.
“Let us not shut down some leaders, let us welcome all of them if that is what will ensure our region is not left behind.” She said.
“As we respect the decisions of those who have decided to have a different political stance, let those of us in government stay in government if it benefits the people.” she added.
She asked leaders to make the best use of the present time and deliver on their promises instead of just waiting for 2027.
The women representative who was speaking at a National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) Inua Mama Mashinani event issued several cheques to various women groups from across Gaturi Ward.
The beneficiaries include Gataigu Women’s Group who received Sh 150000, Kangai by Hope Women’s Group; Sh.150000, Muga Disabled Self-help Group Sh. 100000 and Munyu Women Group; Sh. 150000 among other groups.
The NGAAF funds are non-refundable and are given to registered women’s groups consisting of at least 100 members each.
Area Member of County Assembly, Gathee Wa Njeri, on his part, called upon the women groups to utilize the funds for economic empowerment which is their intended purpose.
Nominated MP and former Murang’a women representative Sabina Chege, who was also present called for unity among leaders from Murang’a county saying they will be more impactful if they work together.
“Let us all unite and set aside our selfish interests so that we can deliver development to the people.” She said noting that the leaders will individually go back to seek votes from the residents at the right time.
