Residents of parts of Murang’a South Sub County will start accessing government services closer to them after inauguration of new administrative units.
Central Regional Commissioner Wilfred Nyagwanga presided at an occasion to inaugurate offices of the new Kangangu location in Kimorori/Wempa ward.
The location will also have three sub locations which will see assistants chiefs deployed in the new units to serve local residents.
Mr Nyagwanga said the new administrative units will relieve locals of the challenges of traveling long distances to seek government services.
“People from this area who need birth and death certificates will access them in the new offices. We have also deployed more police officers in the local police post to beef up security in the area,” Nyagwanga said.
He reiterated government commitment to fight drug abuse especially bhang peddling in the region which is rampant.
Nyagwanga observed that bhang is being sourced from a neighbouring country adding it’s unfortunate some traffickers in some cases opt to sell the drug to school going children.
“The government will employ various strategies to curb trafficking of bhang which is sneaked from Ethiopia. We are currently pursuing rogue traders behind the illegal business,” he added.
Nyagwanga regretted that abuse of bhang among learners can be blamed for increased incidents of unrest in schools, saying security officers are out to apprehend those selling bhang to students.
He said there was a need for the management of learning institutions to work hand in hand with the security committees to ensure bhang among other dangerous elements are not sneaked in.
“More so the schools should closely have a working relationship with nyumba kumi elders as they are closer and could play a big role in the information sharing in matters related to bhang trafficking,” he said.
