Murang’a day secondary school among best performers

A Murang’a Day Secondary School has been recognized as one of the top performers in the previous year’s Kenya Secondary Certificate Education.

Karega School in Kigumo Sub County will send 100 students from a class of 202 who passed the national examination to university after achieving a mean of 6.539. Four students in the school scored grade A minus, while 96 others scored grade C+ and above.

On Tuesday, the school’s management held a thanksgiving ceremony, attended by Murang’a governor Irungu Kang’ata, among other leaders.

Kang’ata lauded the stellar results posted by the school, saying the institution, in the previous years, has been performing exemplarily in the national examinations.

He observed that his administration is committed to supporting local day schools so as to improve education standards.

Hence, the national government has allocated funds to support secondary education by providing financial aid to students preparing to join university from local secondary schools.

“From this year, those who qualify from day schools will each receive Sh15, 000 from the county government. The token is to ensure learners in the day school also compete to attain needed grades to join universities,” said Kang’ata.

Kigumo Legislator Joseph Munyoro, lauding the good performance, noted that the school has proved that learners from day schools can compete with those from national schools.

He observed some students who perform well in KCPE opt to join day schools after their parents fail to afford the needed fees in national and extra-county schools.

Munyoro divulged that Karega School last year received bursaries estimated at Sh2.6 million, pledging to continue disbursing more in the year.

“Kigumo NG-CDF will complete the administration block that will accommodate a staff room and a computer laboratory,” he said.

The day school has over the years been competing with other day schools like Muthithi and Mukangu in Kigumo and Kiharu constituencies respectively.

Meanwhile, Murang’a High School and Mugoiri Girls High School in the county achieved exemplary results, with a mean of 9.2 and 8.97 respectively.
