Murang’a County Assembly Approves County Secretary nominee 

Murang’a County Assembly has approved the nomination of Dr Newton Mwangi to the position of County Secretary.

In a motion tabled by Kinyona MCA Ms Liz Muthoni Mbugua, the assembly unanimously endorsed Mwangi be the second County Secretary upon vetting.

Mbugua said the appointment committee chaired by the county assembly speaker Johnson Mukuha was satisfied that the nominee was qualified and competent to take over the responsibilities.

Mbugua said the nominee had great expertise and experience in public administration drawn from over 36 years of work experience working in the education sector and has served as chairman of various organizations

“Dr Mwangi has a rich education and development background, and the appointment committee found him fit for the position,” said Mbugua.

The session was presided over by Deputy Speaker Moses Gachui.

Kangari MCA Moses Mirara said during the vetting exercise, the nominee demonstrated a clear understanding of the government structures thus suitable for the high position.

“During the election campaign period last year, Mwangi proved to be a team player and helped to resolve issues that arose,” said Mirara.

Ithanga MCA Ndunda Makau said, “We have a lot of expectations from him as he demonstrated knowledge in the administration of public institutions.”

Dr Newton Mwangi, holds a Ph.D. in Education, Masters in Education and Bachelors of Education degree among other certifications.

The 62-year-old former teacher has been a chairman of one of major local Matatu Saccos in Murang’a and is a former Principal at Maragua Ridge and Saba Saba secondary schools both in Murang’a County.

Governor Irungu Kang’ata nominated Mwangi for the position after a committee that received 72 applications where majority were not qualified selected him.

He takes over from former Patrick Mukuria who served under the former Governor Mwangi wa Iria for 10 years.
