Murang’a  Chief charged with disappearing with NIIMS registration gadget

An  Assistant  Chief  was on Tuesday arraigned in a Murang’a Court on charges of disappearing with the electronic gadget used for registering residents for Huduma Namba.

Gerald Maina Njuguna, the assistant chief of Gikandu sub location was charged that on diverse dates between April 5 and April 7, at Gikandu Sub location he took away the National Integrated Identity Management System (NIIMS) machine frustrating the ongoing process of registering residents with Huduma Namba.

The charge further says the administrator’s actions will likely impair the efficiency of the exercise in the discharge of the government service.

According to the prosecution’s report, the accused was arrested on April 8, after security officers launched a manhunt only for the chief to be found in a local bar.

The administrator was mandated to lead clerks in the process of registering people within his sub location with Huduma Namba in the ongoing exercise.

After disappearing with the gadget, the court was told, the process of registration slowed down forcing locals to walk to neighbouring sub locations for registration.

The assistant chief denied the charges before Principal Magistrate, Edwins  Nyagah and asked to be released on reasonable bond terms.

He was released on a Sh.100, 000 bond with one surety of the same amount as his case was scheduled for hearing on June 14 while the same is to be mentioned on April
24.
