Municipal lands Board to ease ratification of building plans

Nyandarua County Executive Committee Member Nominee for Lands and Physical Planning John Ndungu Muiru, has pledged to establish and equip the Ol Kalou Municipal Board to ease ratification of building plans.

While acknowledging the long process investors have had to go through in getting their plans approved for construction, Muiru noted that an audit of the gaps that exist will inform his plan of action.

“We will empower and delegate some of the services to the municipal board and staff it to ensure ease of service delivery. I will also initiate an audit to identify the gaps that exist and set clear timelines for the approvals,” he noted.

The former Banker was tasked with knowing why parts of Nyandarua including Ndaragwa paid their land rates to Laikipia County, yet all their services were rendered by Nyandarua.

“Public participation will also help us agree with the residents on the road boundary lines and survey all roads to avert encroachment,” noted Muiru regretting that community dams also suffered encroachment and needed urgent fencing.

Anticipating the overstretching of Ol Kalou Municipality and the expansion of JM Kariuki hospital, the planner noted the need to acquire land for an airstrip, while expanding its social amenities.

On double allocation of parcels of land in the municipality, Muiru who faced the House Business Committee, said he will fast-track the issuance of title deeds to those whose plots were cleared, noting that the National Lands Commission (NLC) would come in handy in resolving the matter. Kairu acknowledged that the issue had hampered revenue collection.

“We need to have a current spatial plan for the town to replace the one established in 1995. We will allocate funds for the completion of the lands registry in Ol Kalou to enable the officers settle, for ease of service delivery,” noted the Mathematician.

The assembly has concluded the vetting of nominees to various County Executive Committee Member positions and is expected to give their feedback on approval or otherwise to Governor Moses Badilisha on Tuesday.
