MP Wants president to extend purge to the cabinet

A member of parliament  has  urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to extend his purge on disloyal Jubilee parliamentarians to the cabinet.

Alego / Usonga legislator, Samuel Atandi said it was high time the president re-organised his government so as to weed out people whose loyalty was questionable. “We want the purge that begun in parliament to be extended to the cabinet,” he said.

He was speaking at Karapul primary school in Siaya town during the ground breaking ceremony for a multi-million shilling administration cum classrooms block today. The project will be financed by the national government constituency development fund.

Atandi said that the current cabinet cannot help the president achieve his vision, alleging that some of the members were crooked.

“Government exists for the people and those in government must respond to the needs of the citizens. Some of the cabinet secretaries are crooked and must give way,” he said.

The legislator urged the president to consult widely with other leaders so as to come up with a cabinet that will ensure proper implementation of his legacy projects.

On the Building Bridges Initiative, Atandi said the Orange Democratic Movement was fully in it, adding that the party’s parliamentarians were ready to push for its success.

He said that some of the issues that can be sorted out in parliament will be dispensed with in the August house while those that require referendum will be taken to the people.

The legislator supported calls for schools to be reopened next year, adding that it would be foolhardy to have children back to school without proper arrangements on how to tackle the spread of Coronavirus.

“Coronavirus must be addressed. We cannot rush things only to expose our children,” he said.

The occasion was also attended by the Kenya National Union of Teachers Siaya branch executive secretary, Alex Dunga and Members of the county assembly Winnie Otieno, Leonard Oriaro, Sylvester Madialo and Obiero Otare among others.
