MP pledges to donate 12 acres of land to Mau Forest evictees

Kesses MP Dr. Swarrup Mishra has promised to donate 12 acres of land to resettle families who will be evicted from Mau forest.

Dr. Mishra said though small, the land will provide shelter to desperate families who would have otherwise been abandoned and left homeless after being removed from Mau.

Speaking on Sunday at Annex AIC Fellowship on the outskirts of Eldoret town, Dr. Mishra said it was good to show compassionate and  love  to those in need  irrespective of where they come from.

Each household will get 1/8 of an acre, said Mishra while at the same time requesting individuals blessed with big tracks of land to donate part of it to settle the affected families so that they can lead meaningful lives.

The MP asked President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto to settle the Mau issue once and for all, pointing out that it has already been politicised and was bringing instability in the country.

He said as much as the government wants to conserve the Mau Forest, it was imperative for that the government should also look for ways of settling the affected families by giving them alternative land because the women and children were suffering.

The lawmaker however called on fellow politicians from across the political divide to stop politicising the Mau issue saying as Rift Valley leaders they were seeking for the intervention of President Uhuru Kenyatta in a bid to halt the looming eviction of people who have encroached on the Forest.

The government is categorical that it will   not compensate the Mau evictees since they encroached on government land.
