The Kanduyi MP, Wafula Wamunyinyi has launched an automated sanitizing spray booths to combat coronavirus in congested areas within his constituency.
Wamunyinyi also donated 480 bags of maize and 17,000 face masks to the Bungoma multi-emergency team that is headed by the Bungoma County Commissioner, Dr. Abdi Mohammed Hassan.
The donations will be distributed to flood and landslide victims, landslide victims and other vulnerable groups within Bungoma south Sub-county.
The automated sanitizing booths will be placed strategically at densely populated areas in Bungoma town, Kanduyi open market, Bukembe, Kibabii University area and Mayanja trading towns.
The machine is ideal for crowded places so that instead of washing your hands, you walk through a tunnel with overhead sprayers that sprinkle a disinfectant on your body and the process drastically kills germs.
China installed automated sanitizing machines in February this year to deal with large numbers of people.
The machines are used to supplement other measures meant to fight the spread of the covid-19 such as physical distancing and wearing of face masks.
In other developed countries, disinfection tunnels have been tested and employed to deal with large populations such as India, Mexico and Bosnia.
However, this method is not 100 percent effective, but it only supplements other measures like washing hands, wearing masks, staying at home and maintaining physical distancing.
Meanwhile, Bungoma Bishops lead by Calistus Barasa donated food, while the Rotary Club International gave out two 100 litre water tanks that will be used for hand washing within Bungoma’s CBD.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, the Ford Kenya MP appealed to other well-wishers and the government to donate more foodstuffs to assist affected families within the county.
