Ijara MP Sophia Abdinoor has donated foodstuff worth Sh1 million and Sh500, 000 cash to support needy residents of her constituency during the holy month of Ramadhan.
Addressing the press at Masalani Baraza Park Sophia said the mode of distribution of the food would be done in line with the requirement for keeping social distancing and maintaining hygiene.
The MP was on a meet-the-people tour during which she visited elders in Kotile, Korisa, Hara, Ijara, Sangailu and Hulugho sub counties along the Kenya Somalia border.
Several elders complained of food shortages, security, water, health and education sectors which had crumbled because of covid-19 and the Alshabab menace which had forced closure of schools following attacks on teachers and national police reservist last year.
However the MP promised to liase with county government to give assistance to cushion residents on Covid-19 and added she would in turn contact cabinet secretaries for Water and Health to solve water and health issues as well as the Safaricom CEO to ensure Hulugho sub county is installed with Safaricom mast which was blown off by Alshabab in December 2018.
The MP was accompanied by departmental heads of various departments, imams, representatives from county administration Mr. Hajir Mohamed Dahir, representative of Deputy County Commissioner Mr. Alfred Korir and MCA Masalani Abukar Mohammed Shide among others.
