MP disburses Sh8 million to sponsor youth for driving course

Kisumu Central Member of Parliament Dr. Joshua Oron has launched a Sh8 million scholarship for the driving school programme to benefit youths.

Dr. Oron said that he has endeavoured to fulfil the programme annually to fulfil the pledge he made to Kisumu Central Constituents.

The office has been training 400 young people who are willing to acquire driving skills to equip themselves for various job opportunities.

The initiative has collaborated with three driving schools across the constituency to implement the course.

“The training has both men and women who are willing to take driving as a profession, which is part of our education and empowerment scheme, amidst the hope that those who have already benefited from the program are employed in various sectors,” he said.

Nicholas Otieno, the Director, SHAPPIN Driving School, who is also the Chairman of the Kenya Driving School Association Nyanza Region, promised to do his best for the trainees.

Further, he added that he will ensure that, at the end of the training, all the students get a driving license.

Otieno also confirmed that the program is fully sponsored through the NG-CDF kitty and requested full cooperation from the beneficiaries to commit to attending classes.

Dr. Oron pledged to support the beneficiaries in finding employment opportunities in the Kisumu County government.

He added that as part of his education programme, he has accomplished a number of projects in schools within Kisumu Central, and he is yet to build a girls’ Day Secondary School in Kisumu Central, which has only two girls boarding schools, and another Mixed Secondary at Kanyakwar, which has no Secondary School at all.

The Kanyakwar project’s ground-breaking is due in four weeks’ time.

The MP also promised his constituents that in the next two months, he will be launching a Sh20 million project funded by the Ministry of Health to build a health facility around the Jua Kali area in Kisumu town.

Through his office, Dr. Oron also confirmed that 1067 beneficiaries are going to get bursaries for university education, while 700 others will be supported to join various colleges through the Kisumu Central NG-CDF Fund.
