Lugari Member of Parliament Ayub Savula has urged the counties and national government to focus on boosting agricultural activities to ensure the country remains food secure in the post-Covid-19 pandemic period.
Addressing journalists in his constituency on Thursday, Savula said as much as the country was struggling to fight the Coronavirus it should not forget to support agricultural activities for the realization of food security.
He said the virus has ravaged the countries that Kenya relies on for importation of foodstuffs such as maize and rice among others and therefore the need to adopt a home-grown solution.
The legislator called on the county governments to fully support farmers who have not planted by giving free inputs and even helping them plough their lands to ensure no land remains idle.
“County officers should move round and identify all those farmers who have not planted to be assisted and for those who have already planted be given free top dressing fertilizer,” he said.
