MP Arraigned in Court for Assaulting Wife

Mwingi Central Member of Parliament Gideon Mulyungi was on Monday arraigned before a Ngong Court, Kajiado County for allegedly assaulting his wife Doreen Majala.
However the legislator who appeared before Magistrate Alex Ithuku at the Ngong’ Law Courts facing accusations of assault did not take any plea.

His estranged wife Doreen Majala was represented by Lawyer Cliff Ombetsa while Susan Wanja represented Fida.
Majala confirmed the accusations raised against the accused before Magistrate Alex Ithuku, that Mulyungi assaulted her on the night of Monday 26th February 2018 at their Karen home.

She narrated her ordeal to the court and how she suffered serious injuries after being assaulted by her own husband in the presence of everyone in their house.

“The assault began after the MP brought in a 16 year old lady and requested she stays in our house since he was supporting the girl in her education,” said the estranged wife.
She told the court that the girl who was brought into the house disrespected her on several occasions and on that day the MP beat her up after she confronted the girl in their kitchen for dressing badly.

“My husband hit me on the face with his phone and continued punching me until I screamed for help, that is when he stopped,” said the woman who is seeking justice over marital gender violence.

Majala said she picked her belongings and went straight to the police station to report the case and the accused was arrested after seven days and was later released after spending two nights in police custody.

However, the MP now fears losing his parliamentary seat or face a jail term of two years if found guilty.

The second hearing of the case will be on 22nd April 2019.
