Motorists urged to exercise caution during the festivities

Murang’a County Commissioner has urged motorists plying the Kenol- Marua dual carriage highway to exercise caution on the road during this festive season

Patrick Mukuria while speaking in Kenol observed that the highway often gets snarl ups due to the high number of motorists using the road as it acts as a link to the North traversing through Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Machakos, Embu and Nyeri counties.

“We urge public service vehicle drivers and other motorists to observe the recommended speed limit so as to avoid any incidents and accidents during the celebration period,” said Mukuria

“Festivities come with increased travel and a surge in road accidents and we want to avoid this so we can all enjoy the celebrations and as we thank the Almighty for taking us through the year 2023” he said

The CC further cautioned motorists against drinking and driving by asking drivers and merry makers to celebrate in moderation.

“Pedestrians and other road users like boda boda riders also need to be careful, observe the road traffic rules and be mindful of other road users,” he added

Meanwhile, the County Commissioner has assured residents and guests that the county security team has put in place measures to ensure their safety and the safety of their properties during the festive season.

“Security has been heightened with increased patrols all day and night across the county to ensure that your celebrations will go on without any security threat,” he observed

“We have even recalled all our security officers who were on leave and I wish to welcome all those who will be visiting the county for Christmas and the new year and ask them not to worry as their security and property of those who will be away from the county is guaranteed,” he added

The CC urged the general public to cooperate with the authorities by passing information on any suspicious activities within their vicinity

“If you witness anything suspicious that poses a security threat pass the information to us, and we will act,” he said.
