Motorbike rider and one passenger die in Narok accident

A motorbike rider and one of his pillion passengers died on the spot after they were run over by an Isuzu lorry at Siyiapei Bridge along the Narok-Mai Mahiu highway.

It happened that both the lorry and the motorbike were being ridden towards the Maai Mahiu direction, and upon reaching the bridge, the lorry driver attempted to overtake the motorbike that had two pillion passengers on board.

The attempt of the lorry driver to overtake the motorbike did not bear fruit as he ran over the motorbike, killing the rider and one of the pillion passengers on the spot.

Confirming last night’s incident, Narok County Police Commander Riko Ngare said the driver of the lorry escaped immediately when the incident occurred, and police are looking for him.

He confirmed that the second pillion passenger who was on board was rushed to Narok County Referral Hospital with slight injuries as the bodies of the deceased were taken to the same hospital morgue for preservation awaiting postmortem.

Both the ill-fated motorbike and the lorry were towed to the Narok town police station pending inspection.

The accident occurred at a time when traffic snarl-up is building on major roads following the school opening for the first term this year.

A spot check in Narok town and along the Maai Mahiu-Narok-Bomet highway showed a huge traffic snarl-up with traffic police stationed on crossroads to control traffic.
