More levies should be imposed on muguka sellers in Mbooni East Sub-county as it has impacted negatively on lives of the youth.
Area Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Richard Ogwoka has decried increased of number of youth engaging themselves in chewing muguka, which was hampering them from engaging in meaningful activities to earn a living.
Speaking at Mbumbuni during Madaraka Day Celebrations, Ogwoka called upon leaders to supplement government’s efforts in combating the vice.
The DCC called on the youth to stop using muguka which had adverse health effects. Instead, he challenged them to form groups and apply for funding from the youth enterprise fund to enable them initiate small income generating projects to uplift their living standards.
“As government officials, we must tell the truth just like preachers, muguka is not good for your health and social life, thus I would advise the county government to completely ban selling and consumption of the same as our youth were being ruined,” said Ogwoka.
On rampant cases of defilement in the area, the DCC warned those involved in this heinous act that the government will arrest and prosecute them.
Accordingly, he challenged parents to take care of their children, especially the girl child who is more vulnerable in a bid to reduce the rising number of such cases.
Speaking at the same event, the Mbooni East sub county Police Commander, Agnes Amojoho asked mothers to have a close watch on their children, whom she said were not safe even in the hands of their very close relatives.
However, Amojoho assured wananchi that security agencies were on the look out to deal with all culprits, while urging members of the public to volunteer useful information that can help to nab criminals.
