More COVID-19 Relief in Mombasa

More organisations continue to offer relief food and cash donations to help the government in combating the ravages associated with the ongoing cessation impasse in Mombasa restricting people from their daily means of livelihoods.
In a press briefing, Mombasa County Commissioner, Gilbert Kitiyo, lauded the donors who pledge and honour their food and monetary support to the Emergency Response Committee charged with collecting any from well-wishers.
Over ten tons of maize flour, rice and cooking oil was handed over to the Committee from the Institute of Engineers of Kenya, Toyota Kenya, Civilizer Organisation, Gusii business community among others.
The Commissioner said the food reserves being collected and those from the government have been in distribution by the Kenya Red Cross now in its second week in Mombasa.
Kitiyo warned that Corona cases will increase in few days due to the ongoing mass testing in Likoni and Changamwe calling on the locals not to panic from the results.
“In the next few weeks, there will be a spike in Covid-19 cases but the figures should not worry you, instead take it as a sign that some good work is being done,” said Kitiyo
The Commissioner added that the food donations will come in handy in helping the new cessation area of Old Town that locals will need water, food and medical care from the well wishers.
“We assure the residents in affected areas that it is not punishment being restricted from movement. That is why we want to make their stay as comfortable as possible for them to know that the war was not against them but the deadly Covid-19.”
Kitiyo called on the community to be in charge of their health by reporting any suspected cases to the authorities of individuals in their area who have shown symptoms of Covid-19.
