Mombasa County will experience generally sunny weather with light to moderate morning showers for the next one week, the weatherman has forecast.
According to Mombasa County Director of Meteorology, Charles Mwangi showers will occur in several places during the early morning hours giving way to sunny intervals during the day.
“The afternoons will be generally sunny. Nights will be partly cloudy with chance of light rains. Wind will flow from south at 4m/s (14km/h). Temperatures will reach highs of 32°C and lows of 24°C during the week,” said Mwangi in the predictions issued Sunday.
At the same time, he said the County has received 49 mm of rainfall in the past one week, adding that floods may occur in low-lying areas, with clogged drainage and those with unfilled and abandoned quarries.
He said flooded areas are breeding grounds for mosquitoes, thus diseases such as malaria and dengue fever, can emerge, advising health authorities to prepare to deal with such situations.
In addition, Mwangi warned flash floods may lead to transport problems, especially in areas where the roads become impassable when it rains which may inconvenience motorists and pedestrians.
The Meteorology Director advised farmers, fishermen, beach goers, hotels and vacationers to consult relevant government departments on how to plan for their activities owing to the weather forecast.
