Religious and other leaders in Mombasa have condemned Tuesday’s Riverside DusitD2 terror attack where 14 people lost their lives and several others injured.
The Organizing Secretary of Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) Sheikh Mohamed Khalifa said Muslim leaders were saddened by this barbaric act and urged Kenyans to stand together to defeat terrorists and other enemies of the country.
Addressing the media in Mombasa on Wednesday, Sheikh Khalifa commended swift and well coordinated response by security forces that defeated the attackers and saved so many lives.
“We sympathize with all the affected but our enemies should know our country will remain resilient to such cowardice acts,” said the Muslim cleric.
Sheikh Khalifa who was accompanied by CIPK national treasurer Sheikh Hassan Omar appealed to Kenyans to remain calm and give the government ample time to fully investigate the matter.
Meanwhile, Hundreds of Mombasa residents jammed Koblenz Hall and Huduma Centre to donate blood to support those injured during the terror attack.
Kenya Red Cross officials in Mombasa commended the residents for responding positively to the appeal for blood donation.
“The number of those who came out to donate blood at our two centres was overwhelming and very encouraging,” said Mohamed Rajab, Red Cross coordinator in Mombasa.
Mvita Member of Parliament Abdulswamad Nassir, who was among those who volunteered blood, condemned the terror attack and asked Kenyans to stand together regardless of their religion and race.
