Mombasa CC calls for teamwork in Nation Government projects execution

Civil servants in Mombasa have been urged to work in unison in the implementation of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

Speaking during the inaugural meeting of the National Government Development -Mombasa County Implementation Coordination and Management Committee (NGD-CICMC), the area County Commissioner (CC), Abdirisack Jaldesa, who doubles-up as the Chairman, said through collaboration Mombasa will record remarkable performance.

“There is a necessity to work as a team in the implementation of government projects. It’s pivotal for officers implementing projects to have information. BETA is no longer a campaign slogan it’s a government policy. All departments must work in harmony,” said Jaldesa.

The CC stressed on the importance of public participation, as enshrined in the Constitution before the commencement of projects or programmes to forestall court, cases that may derail the kicking-off of the projects.

Members of the Committee made-up of Heads of Departments (HODs), were advised to use the NGD-CICMC for amicable resolutions of inter-agencies disputes touching on development projects to dodge disproportionate hesitations in the implementation of projects within the stipulated contract period.

“Government agencies should facilitate implementation of government projects not being impediments,” said the CC.

The CC further encouraged the members to be abreast with BETA, various government policies, and projects being executed in their localities.

Members were implored to sensitise the public on the benefits of the ambitious Affordable Housing Programme (AHP) that will ensure every Kenyan has access to a decent home.

The NGD-CICMC was urged to embrace tree planting in line with the President’s commitment to 15B trees by 2032.

Sherry Ariko, Director of Delivery and Secretary of the Regional Implementation and Coordination Management Committee (RICMC), emphasised one government approach to achieve the goals of the Kenya Kwanza administration.

“The Goal is to improve the livelihoods of the people of Mombasa County through timely implementation of projects and programmes through the able leadership of the Chairman,” she said.

Benjamin Ndani, Deputy Director of Delivery and Secretary of Mombasa NGD-CICMC, took the Committee through Executive Order number 1 of 2023 and a circular from the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary, on the coordination and implementation of National government policies, programmes, and projects, operationalisation of NGD-CICMC and the reporting matrix.

Janeta Wambua Coordinator of Marine Spatial Planning got the ball rolling for the NGD-CICMC.

Wambua made a brief but detailed presentation on the Kenya Marine Fisheries and Socio-Economic Development Project (KEMFSED).

KEMFSED is implemented by the State Department for Blue Economy and Fisheries with support from the World Bank.

It aims at supporting the country in its efforts to leverage emerging opportunities in Blue Economy.

The project focuses on marine fisheries and covers the coastal counties that border the Indian Ocean: Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Tana River, and Lamu.

The project targets poor households in the five Coastal counties, including vulnerable groups such as the Tswaka, Watha, Aweer, and Sanye. The primary target groups are the fishers and poor fisheries-dependent households, and rural communities with direct or indirect links to fishing activities.
