Molo Boda boda riders urged to adhere to traffic rules

Boda boda riders in Kuresoi South have been urged to be responsible and adhere to traffic rules to prevent accidents.

Area Sub-County Police Commander, Henry Nyaranga noted that the riders were well aware of the traffic rules but chose not to follow them, thus causing many accidents. “Going forward, rogue riders will not be tolerated but will be dealt with severely as per the law,’’ Nyaranga warned.

Recently two riders died when their motorcycles were involved in an accident while two Boda boda passengers are admitted at Keringet Hospital. The worst accident-prone areas in the region are Olenguruone and Keringet trading centres.

Nyaranga accused most Boda boda operators of being drunk while on the road thereby risking their lives as well as the lives of those they ferry.

“They should be responsible riders and avoid being drunk while ferrying passengers to various destinations within the sub-county,” he said.

Concerning Olenguruone accident, Nyaranga said it occurred after two riders heading opposite directions collided head on leading to the death of one instantly.

The other was rushed to Olenguruone Sub-County Hospital before being transferred to Nakuru County hospital in critical condition.

At Keringet, he added, the rider who had two passengers was drunk when he hit the lorry transporting potatoes.

He died on the spot while the two survivors were rushed to the nearby Keringet Hospital.
