A three year old girl died in an inferno last night after a mysterious fire razed down Haresa village in the outskirts of Mandera town.
The inferno burnt down eight houses to ashes as the families slept with the minor dying helplessly in a family house.
Ahmed Bore, a resident, said nothing was salvaged following the raging fire that lasted for three hours.
Bore said the families lost household goods and were forced to sleep in the cold after the inferno destroyed everything in the houses.
The Kenya Red Cross Society responded to the families’ call with household goods and food stuff.
Adan Mustafa of the Red Cross said the society assessed the destruction and said the hot weather escalated the fire as the whole village was gutted down.
Mustafa said the families have received food supplies, beddings and other household goods to enable them continue with life.
Security agents in the region who acted swiftly have launched an investigation to establish the cause of the blaze as nobody knows where it started from.
The families have been left to sleep in the cold even as the country at large continues observing the nationwide curfew imposed by the government.
