The Ministry of Health has commenced investigations into the death of Lucy Wambui’s tragic passing following complications from a surgical procedure at a Nairobi hospital.
Wambui, the wife to a prominent Nairobi business man died after undergoing surgery at a Nairobi hospital.
Public Health and Professional Standards Principal Secretary (PS) Mary Muthoni said that an investigation has been initiated by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council to thoroughly examine the circumstances leading to this incident.
“A team has been dispatched to the facility to conduct a fact-finding mission aimed at assessing whether the necessary professional standards were met in Wambui’s care,” said the PS.
Ms. Muthoni said that any evidence of malpractice or deviation from established norms will be addressed with appropriate action, in line with applicable laws.
“Ministry, through the State Department for Professional Standards, reaffirms its commitment to ensuring a skilled health workforce equipped with the competencies necessary for delivering high-quality care,” said Ms. Muthoni.
According to the PS, robust frameworks are in place to regulate healthcare services, uphold ethical standards, protect consumers, and foster public trust in health services.
“To safeguard public health, we encourage citizens to verify the credentials of healthcare providers and facilities. Please confirm the status of medical practitioners by sending a free SMS to 20547 using the format: P#Doctor’s Name, or to check a hospital, H#Hospital Name,” said the PS.
She said that the Ministry remains dedicated to the continuous improvement of healthcare quality and accountability for the well-being of all Kenyans.
