Mining firm donates Sh3million desks to Kwale schools

Kwale-based Base Titanium Mining Company donates desks and lockers to various schools in the region

Base Titanium Mining Company Thursday donated 230 desks and lockers to two public schools in Vanga Ward, Lunga Lunga Sub-county in Mwale County, as part of its corporate social responsibility.
The Kwale-based firm handed over the desks to the area MCA, Mr. Yusuf Mbwana for distribution to Jego and Vanga primary schools.
The company’s Community Affairs Supervisor, Ms. Mwanaidi Ali said that they aim to donate 1,000 desks worth Sh.3million to various schools across the county as part of their ongoing community programmes.
This comes as a great relief to local schools, most of which are overcrowded and classrooms neglected with learners being forced to sit on the dusty floors, stones and logs.
“The donation is part of our commitment to improving community infrastructure and investing in education to achieve improved educational outcomes for the local youth,” said Ms. Ali.
Mr. Mbwana thanked the company for the support, saying it will boost education standards in local schools which is wanting partly because of inadequate learning facilities.
“By supporting education, we are investing in the future of our youth,” said Mr. Mbwana.
The company has also previously donated 100 lockers to Magaoni and Kinondo secondary schools and 30 desks to Feeder Nursery Schools in Mwandimu and Masindeni villages.
Its community programmes are closely aligned with the County Integrated Development Plan and partners with the county government to ensure development priorities are met.
