Migori Youth FC patron and Uriri Member of Parliament (MP) Mark Nyamita has officially unveiled former Shabana FC Coach Sammy Okoth as the new head coach.
The team recruited the new coach in a bid to boost their performance as they look forward to getting promoted to the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League next season.
Nyamita said they scouted for the seasoned tactician to help the team ascend to the FKF premier league in the 2024/2025 season.
Okoth however, said that he will do his best to bring his players to the top professional football premier league in Kenya adding that this can be achieved through the support of the able patron, technical bench team, players, and fans.
Okoth helped Shabana FC from Kisii County to ascend to the Kenya Premier League after finishing top of the National Super League (NSL) in the 2022/2023 season.
His coaching tenure also includes stints with other FKF PL teams such as Zoo FC and Vihiga.
Okoth played a key role in Shabana’s remarkable journey to the FKF PL after a 17-year absence but was sacked in November 2023 after only one win, four draws, and six losses in ten games leaving the Gusii-based team at 17th place in the 2023/2024 KPL table.
In the 2022/2023 NSL season, Migori Youth finished third but lost the KPL promotion playoffs to Wazito FC (now known as Muhoroni Youth FC).
The new head coach said he has seen potentiality in the team after facing Migori FC in the NSL while he was the head coach of Shabana FC.
He assured the Migori fans that he would do his best to assist the team push upwards from its current sixth position after accumulating 33 points from 20 matches.
“I am calling upon Migori Youth FC fans to show up during team training sessions and home games to motivate the players, and I am hopeful with my wealth of experience I will be able to help the team perform even better,” said Okoth.
Okoth first task will be to lead Migori Youth away against Navas FC on 3rd March.
