Migori County is set to launch the first-ever County football edition tournament to unearth the rich talent among the county youths.
Speaking in her office, Migori County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Sports, Education, and Youths Affairs Rahab Robi said that the County edition will focus on identifying and promoting talents, creating sportsmanship, enhancing cohesion and unity, and promoting community engagements.
The County football tournament will kick off on December 5, across the 40 wards, and will comprise both the male and female clubs making it one of the first and biggest footballing tournaments since devolution in the county.
“We want to help our youths showcase their footballing talents and give them a platform for more opportunities in the sporting world”, said Ms Rahab.
Early this month while touring Migori stadium, the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) Secretary General Francis Mutuku affirmed that the Nyanza region should be continuously supported to help it unearth the rich talents that in recent years have produced respectable sportsmen and women who have made Kenya a respectable country on the international stage.
The County, a few years back boosted the best footballers that played for Sony Sugar Football Club before the club dissolved due to financial constraints that led to a majority of footballer’s talents going to waste.
However, the County currently boosts Migori Youth FC which made the county proud by reaching the first ever 2022/2023 Kenya Premier League Play offs. Even though the club lost to Wazito FC (now known as Muhoroni Youths) the County has shown that there are a lot of youth talents that need to be tapped to steer the country’s sporting activities.
