Migori rolls out Sh40 million grants to empower citizens

Migori County, through the Empowerment Plan Programme, is set to give financial assistance to communities in all 40 wards within the county.

The County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Trade, Tourism, and Cooperative Development, Betty Samburu, said that the County Economic Empowerment Programme will be in the form of grants to benefit economically 10 formal groups from each of the 40 wards.

Samburu said that already committees at the ward levels have started the recruitment exercise to establish the groups that will benefit from the grants.

According to Samburu, each ward has been allocated one million with a target group composition of 50 percent women, 30 per cent youth, and 20 per cent special groups, including persons living with disabilities (PWD).

She disclosed that the empowerment programme is meant to benefit the lowest persons at the ward levels to improve the living standards of the rural dwellers.

The County Secretary, Oscar Olima, said that the Migori County Empowerment Plan will empower the local communities to ensure that they can create and generate wealth at the lowest levels of society.
